Initial Thoughts: iPhone 3G S (Updated)
Whoopie… I can’t wait for next year when the next iPhone is out and my contract is due. Today’s new iPhone 3G S is nice, but nothing was presented that is mind blowing new – I mean everything seen today should have technically already been there. It’s almost as if iPhone 3G S is more of a “catch-up-to-the-crowd” release than a “breakthrough” device. One more year… 2009 is the year to get everything set to standard (i.e. video record, voice control, etc.). 2010, however, should break new ground for the iPhone lineup. Bring it on!
(UPDATE) … So here’s my prediction for changes in the 2010 iPhone. This is completely my imagination and best logistical thoughts.
- New external design
- Thinner
- Less weight
- New production materials
- Faster data
- Less bluetooth restrictions
- Umm… Google Latitude, anyone?!
- Improved camera
- Higher resolution
- LED flashlight
- Liquid-Optical zoom
- HD video recording
- Possible forward-facing, under-glass camera
- Support for Flash
Also, I am really looking forward to Hulu making a scene on the iPhone. It’s coming, but all I can do until then is wait. Hrmm… Technology can be so amazing, but it’s almost like a drug. You get so addicted to it’s awesomeness that you keep on craving more!
What the… Update!
OK. The bad news turned itself around. Some nice soul started up a free forum to fill the OMI void, called Oregon Media Forum. The link is posted in the sidebar. I am very happy and think this will continue to progress and, at some point in the future, will be at the level OMI was when it went under.
What the…?!
Bad news bears just came knock’in at my door… well… my web browser (Chrome for all you nerds). My favorite online community called Oregon Media Insiders has shut its doors permanently until someone, if anyone, will take it over. I’m not that involved with Oregon media currently, but this site has been the best thing I’ve found that can pacify my love for broadcasting. It’s that it’s so local, so personal, that I can relate and partake in the discussions. Then, come a couple of days, the host says she’s closing down (for understandable reasons) tomorrow (7/5/09). I mean, come that day, everything on that community just halted, disappeared, gone! I feel stranded and, in fact, annoyed that she couldn’t have gradually shuttered it down. I truly understand her predicament, but seriously, she had so many people attached to this web-based Oregon media society. In fact, often the main topic individual would partake anonymously with the discussions. It was as if it was an underground gossip line – but it was trusted by these people in the business. Anyway… I’m annoyed, hoping someone takes over soon, and am myself trying to figure if there’s anything I can do.
Moving Forward…
Okay… so I’ve taken the time and progressed a little more (sorta) with the jHICKS.ORG branding. I recently discovered that because I purchased a domain name, I can also associate an email address with jHICKS.ORG… In other words, I have now made my primary email address john@jhicks.org – it sounds so much more professional. But fear not, I still rely on my Farwest05 Gmail account. In fact, it is the primary account I use to manage my john@jhicks.org email. However, farwest05@gmail.com will now completely be masked and all messages I send out, unless manually selected otherwise, will be delivered from john@jhicks.org… It was quite a struggle figuring all this tech stuff out, so I must give kudos to Eugene for his help.
It ended up that I was trying to set up john@jhicks.org via GoDaddy, the host of jhicks.org… but since I forwarded everything to WordPress so that I could have this blog located at jhicks.org, I had to go actually go through WordPress to configure my email. Whew… I don’t know how I got through it. After some Gmail configurations, I’m all good to go!
This is so neat!… but unfortunately, kind of pointless at this point. However, I look forward as little as one year, and I see how important having the email address john@jhicks.org could be. For example, summer 2010 I really want to have an internship at a broadcasting station. On my resumé, it could be quite impactful to have not only my own blog with a custom and catch web address, but also a formal, associated email to accomodate it! So, here is basically the only resource I needed for using your GoDaddy-purchased domain name to create an associated email address with the same branding (with this method, there is no need to modify any GoDaddy settings, granted your domain is associated with WordPress):

I created another new header for jHICKS.ORG… I’m always so unsatisfied with my creations. At one point I like it, the next I don’t. So… you can probably expect a new or rendered header every month – it’s just hotwired in my mind to keep changing it up.
