Introducing “F1″

You’ve probably seen my series of F5 postings in the past. Those are devoted to informing you whenever I make a change to jBlog, whether it be physical or all in the gears (i.e. Publicize, Widgets, etc.). I am starting a new periodic series which, ironically, will be named “F1″. On a PC, F1 generally invokes a help menu or window. Essentially, F1 helps you get information. This is what the new F1 line of posts will be like. They will be updates on what’s going on when times are slow. I suppose, in a way, they are like the Scribbles I used to write. Anyway, keep an eye out for those. But for now, here’s today’s update:

October 12, 2009

  • Writing for media (WR-201) is quite interesting. It really helps if you are very devoted and seriously involved in media, because a normal student taking the class just for kicks not only will complain and struggle, but will also be subconsciously compared and, essentially, ranked against others in the class. It’s a good course, though… So far that is. It will get challenging
  • I am volunteering to photograph the OSU drag show on October 30th. That will be an experience… Am still getting information from the host person – so it’s not legit yet.
  • Dixon is now a regular part of my life. It is so important to me that I go and work out. I’m really devoted to losing this weight and I am down 28lbs from my starting weight. But I’m stuck at the current number I’m down to, despite the calorie cutting and workout routine. I also wish I had a trainer or something – maybe just even a friend to show me how to do weights and stuff. I go into the weight room on occasion, and I am actually nervous as I search for a machine that is the simplest. I don’t want to look like a fool trying to operate a machine but failing at it. I might consider seeing a campus health advisor… But I don’t think that’ll cut it. I really just need someone to answer my questions and be able to tell and show me what to do in order to get the results I want.
  • Safeway’s Eating Right line of frozen meals are delicious and healthy. They are the best entrées even up against Healthy Choice and Michelina’s Lean.
  • Homework is crazy off-and-on. Right now I’m in a low swell, but by mid-week, I will be flooded. Midterms and papers due here and there – I’ve gotta right it all down.
  • I keep procrastinating when it comes to applying for The Daily Barometer or KBVR – I just need to bite the bullet and do it – it is for my own good.

F5: Publicize!

Hey… jBlog postings are now publicized on Twitter (Psst… You can follow me here).

Only one problem, however. If I post to Twitter via WordPress, then my Tumblr will post both this direct blog and the Twitter publicized version… Meaning… Two entries will show up on Tumblr. Hmm… I’ve got an idea! I should remove jBlog as a source my Tumblr blog monitors and aggregates… That way, when I post a blog here, it will post to Twitter, and then Tumblr will see the publicized post on Twitter and make a new entry that way.

Drift Away

Transitioning from summer to autumn is absolutely brutal.

It is difficult to be inspired by the change to fall while just coming off of the thrill of summer. One goes from thriving in the daily sunshine and upper-seventy degree warmth to a groan-worthy chill in the air and a stack of homework. I read so many peoples’ comments on how much they love fall or Halloween or just bearing a coat to there whereabouts. But I am trapped in a seasonal depression where the thriving life of summer collides instantaneously with the wrath of cold trends and hard work. Rain is surprisingly my utter weakness. Perchance I could come to embrace the enjoyable side of bundling up for the brisk daily temperatures, but weighing out the annoying decision between a raincoat or umbrella and walking to class or biking really shoots down my sense of fun in autumn or winter. Rain puts a dampener on everything for me.

Look at the life during summer. Day-by-day passes and the routine of t-shirts and shorts becomes so natural, and the trips to Starbucks for an iced drink and some Boggle seemed so perfect. Going to work on a regular basis was the tough of the time, but glancing back it was rather a joy. There are so many aspects of summer that sulk in their own rhythm of happiness, but autumn and winter, in my opinion, beg to be loved.

I suppose it’s the whole stigma of going back to school that sends these seasons into a bitter spin. But beyond that, I truly do have a desire to enjoy these times, but coming off of the high known as summertime, these days of earlier sunsets and dramatically cooler days accompanied by classes, homework, and the other miscellaneous difficulties in life leave me in this longing for past times where all I want to do is drift away.

Goodbye summer; Until next time.

Music Spotlight: The Olive Grove

Browsing the tweets from my tweeps, I became informed of a new artist called The Olive Grove thanks to KATU’er Anita Kissée. I took some time to browse over The Olive Grove’s music offerings on their August-release album Here’s a Letter. I must say I have not purchased the $9.99 album yet, but feel very inclined to indulge. The Olive Grove’s music is relatively similar to that of Norah Jones, yet with a more colorful, not-so-classical taste with a snap of electronic synthetic variety.

The only factor holding me back from adding the album to my cart is not the composition of the artist or the album, but rather my simple taste of genres. I am more of an electronic, alternative, pop sort of guy with a few exceptions for pieces by Lights, Adele, Norah Jones, or Sarah McLachlan. However, I will definitely go back over to that iTunes Store and re-preview the tracks again and maybe hand-select one, two, or more. Of the thirty-second snippet previews, my favorites are Simple, Landslide, and The Other Summerwind.

I can really see The Olive Grove making it to the featured front of iTunes – and I hope such an artist finds the success its music proves deserving.
